Classic Thai as well as local Southern Thai recipes – as the recipe list is always being updated according to availability of seasonal ingredients I will send you the recipes list upon request.

At the cooking class you will learn how to prepare and cook a 3 truly authentic Thai dishes in a traditional way on charcoal stoves.

 

You will be enjoying your meals in a traditional local living environment with many insights into local Southern Thai culture. Our rustic wooden house being set in a lush and green, almost jungle-like garden adds up to your cooking experience.

Note: For safety reasons (cooking on open fire, frying with hot oil, use of sharp knives, etc.), children under the age of 16 cannot take part in the cooking class.

    Après avoir passé 2 jours d'immersion culinaire avec Ying et Daniel chez eux, dans un écrin de verdure, je reste transportée par la rencontre et l'expérience! J'étais en contact depuis un moment avec eux sur les réseaux, je pouvais donc avoir un très bon aperçu des plats vraiment spéciaux qu'il me serait donné de cuisiner mais l'expérience vécue fût encore plus riche et magique! Ying est de Koh Samui, elle a donc une culture culinaire du Sud et de l'île tout particulièrement qu'il est rare de pouvoir expérimenter. Elle a aussi une connaissance profonde de la cuisine de son pays puisqu'elle dispense depuis 10 ans des cours de cuisine. Depuis quelques années cependant elle poursuit ses recherches pour aller au coeur des traditions ancestrales et oubliées par la grande majorité dans le pays. Elle va chercher dans des recettes datant d'il y a plus d'une centaines d'années, les origines des plats que l'on connait aujourd'hui. Il y a donc derrière une grande compréhension et une intelligence de la façon dont les plats se sont construits et ont évolués avec le temps. Si vous cherchez un cours de cuisine pour reproduire des plats que vous avez appréciez dans la plupart des restaurants, vous pouvez passer votre chemin! Ying travaille avec la saisonnalité des produits et ce qu'il y a au marché. La liste des recettes vous sera communiquée peu de temps avant le cours pour s'assurer de cela. Dans ce cours immersif de cuisine, il vous est donné l'opportunité d'aller au coeur de la gastronomie thaïlandaise, de comprendre comment elle s'est développée en suivant les différentes migrations de population ayant avec eux leurs propres façons de cuisiner ainsi qu'une éducation du palais à l'équilibre des saveurs des plats thaï. Une expérience unique et parfaite pour les passionnées!!! Si vous le pouvez, prenez un cours sur plusieurs jours...     Brilliant! Don’t spend time on your hotel cooking class. This is champions league. Yeng and Daniel let you into their home and teach you the ancient way to cook Thai and to taste it! Unforgettable!

    Below is my initial review from December 2022. I have recently returned to Koh Samui and the first thing I did was book another class with Ying - so this is my review update. It was equally as good, if not even better than my first class. We spent some additional time in the market where I was able to really deepen my knowledge, especially of seasonal vegetables and herbs (which is what I asked about prior to the day). As we cooked Ying gave me the encouragement to explore the flavour profiles of different dishes and make adjustments as I tasted along - this process is obviously different to when doing so in western cuisine, but Ying’s explanations are so clear. We also spent time discussing the entire compilation of a Thai meal; this was absolutely fascinating and I am pretty sure nobody on Samui can do this better than Ying. The food we cooked was simply amazing. The house and garden looks even better now and the kitchen setup is perfect. Daniel supports the process and the transition from dish to dish was very smooth. All in all, it was an incredible learning experience and a lot of fun. Although it is a packed day, because of the beautiful garden setting and the atmosphere created by Ying and Daniel, it is extremely relaxing. I couldn’t think of a nicer place to spend the day cooking. This was a exceptionally high qualiy experience: from initial communication, to picking dishes, market tour and of course the cooking and eating. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly and the quality of the ingredients, cooking envrionment and instruction is excellent. This is authentic southern Thai cooking and I learnt a huge amount.

    Wer etwas über die Thaiküche und ihre unterschiedlichsten Facetten kennenlernen möchte, ist hier total richtig! Ying und Daniel sind super nette Gastgeber, sie nehmen sich Zeit für Fragen, erklären viel neben dem Cooking, wohnen in paradiesischer Umgebung und man merkt beiden ihre Leidenschaft für Thai-Cooking zu 100% an. Die Gerichte waren das leckerste Essen, dass wir in Thailand gegessen (u selbst mit gekocht:)) haben. Würden wir immer wieder machen, wenn wir auf Ko Samui sind.

    Wenn man die "wirkliche" Thai Küche inklusive allem rundherum von Gewürzkunde bis Zusammenstellung von ThaiGeschmäckern kennenlernen will, ein absolutes Muss. Dazu ein tolle Umgebung in einem tollen Haus, ein irre gemütlicher und professioneller Tag mit den Beiden. Das war sicherlich nicht unser letzter Besuch und das gekochte Essen war der Wahnsinn.

    Der Kochkurs war eine ganz wunderbare Erfahrung. Der Kochstil von Ying ist anders als ich ihn von zuhause kenne und das hat es sehr besonders gemacht. Wir haben drei vollständige Sets gekocht und super viele Tips bekommen, auf welche Sachen der Fokus zu legen ist. Ying und Daniel sind super freundlich und man konnte alle möglichen Fragen stellen, die einem durch den Kopf gingen. Insgesamt ein sehr schöner Tag und die Erfahrung können wir jedem nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

    For five days, I had the privilege of getting to know Thai cuisine (a little) with Ms. Ying. It was an immersion in the diversity of flavours, paired with cultural background, corresponding expertise, Ms. Ying's personal dedication and ultimately led to "explosions on the palate" away from the tourist culinary scene. I can only say THANK YOU and look forward with joy and anticipation to the continuation in the coming year.

    Wow what an experience. We were bought this as a wedding present as it came highly recommended by a couple of friends who visited Ying a few years ago. We didn’t know what to expect but it was one of our favourite days of the honeymoon. From going to the market to select the fresh ingredients, to tasting all of the individual ingredients and learn from Ying how they all tie together. Ying was so passionate and it was a pleasure to be in hers and Daniels house learning how to cook traditional Thai dishes using traditional cooking methods. All 3 dishes were exquisite and we can’t wait to try and recreate at home. Thanks again!

    We wanted to experience local traditional Thai cooking and Ying cooking class was perfect. Ying’s cooking class is an amazing introduction to the history, flavour profiles and textures of Thai food. We cooked 3 dishes from scratch with natural whole food. Fresh home made coconut milk, minced meat by hand, pounded our own curry paste in a mortar and pestle, cooked over a tao coal burner. No bottled oysters sauce or pre-made curry paste in sight. What tasted and looked complex was quick and easy. I love the tao coal burner so much, I am trying source one to buy. There was so many lovely dishes to choose from. They all sounded delicious. It was really hard to choose 3. Daniel was so lovely. Great to chat to. He was up at 5.30am to make the coconut milk for our class. What a trooper! Ying’s dad was so sweet in the background, helping to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Ying, Daniel and Ying’s Dad. We’ll definitely be back to learn more.

    The experience was amazing. The cooking was spectacular. Under the supervision of Ying, I cooked some of the most delicious food I had during my stay in Thailand. But it is so much more than recipes, I got initiated to some of the fundamentals of Thai cooking and how dishes are constructed through the layering of flavours. I also learned how Thailand history shaped Thai cuisine and how foreign influences lead to evolutions of dishes. Most importantly, it is a wonderful introduction to Thai cuisine beyond the handful of dishes you see everywhere. You'll get a glimpse of the depth of thai cuisine and get to appreciate its regional differences. You will learn a lot but perhaps even better, it will leave you eager to learn more and discover cooking you've been missing on.
